The Johnston County-Wide Christmas dinner began in 1990 and has been held every year, other than 2000 when the venue was being changed. Thus the 2015 Dinner will be celebrating its 25th Anniversary December 25, 2015! The Dinner is held on Christmas Day each year, unless Christmas falls on a Sunday, in which case it is moved to Christmas Eve.

Sponsored by the Tishomingo Development Team, several businesses have been a contributor to the Dinner from the very beginning: Landmark Bank, Tishomingo Dairy Queen, Mill Creek Fire Department, Cousin’s Food Depot, Sooner Foods, and Johnston County Capital Democrat. Others that have joined over the years include Murray State College, Great Western Dining, Johnston County EMS, Tishomingo Chevrolet, Texoma Physical Therapy & Rehab Center, Woods Chiropractic Clinic, The Rockin’ Rib, Johnston County Court House and DHS employees. Cakes and pies are provided by members of the First Baptist Church, Calvary Baptist Church, Bullard Chapel Church, First Church of the Nazarene, United Methodist Church and the Westside Church of Christ.

The Dinner is free to all Johnston County residents. To add a festive flair, The Buddies provide music (both holiday and country) and door prizes in the way of table decorations are individually made by Tishomingo 4-H members. Over 50 individuals give of their holiday spirit by either cooking turkeys, working in the cafeteria the day of the dinner, or delivering meals to those homebound…in every community in Johnston County. Over the past 24 years it is estimated over 9,000 meals have been provided to homebound and to those that come and enjoy the companionship of the dinner.

This year’s 25th Anniversary Dinner will be Friday, December 25th from 11:30-1:00 at the Murray State College cafeteria.
